Instagram Pods | Ricci Ellis

by Ricci Ellis

If you aren’t a blogger or social media influencer then you will probably have zero interest in this post. HA! But really though…today am going to talk about Instagram Pods and what I really think about them. This all stemmed from an article that was on BuzzFeed a couple of weeks ago titled “Facebook Removes 10 Instagram Algorithm-Gaming Groups with Hundreds of Thousands of Members”.

I remember seeing the article and skipping over it because I didn’t know what “algorithm-gaming groups” were but when I started seeing it popping up in all of my blogging facebook groups I knew I had to check it out. That’s when I discovered that it was all about Instagram Pods, Facebook groups that were all about them and that BuzzFeed had somehow infiltrated them and gotten them shut down. Bad move BuzzFeed. I mean, why? What did those groups really do to you?

If you are confused as to what these groups did and why they got shut down let me explain.

Miss June 2018 | Jennifer Maune

I had a very fulfilling career in nonprofit management, fundraising and public relations before retiring to stay at home with my children. I am a proud mother of five kids ages eight to one, and I created a blog in April 2017 to document our life. I was looking for a fun outlet, and I was excited about sharing our faith and connecting with other moms. I have wanted to be many things throughout my career, a photographer, an interior designer, an event planner, etc., so I love that my blog has become a place where all my passions collide. Maune Legacy is a lifestyle blog centered around motherhood, style, home living, party planning, recipes, travel, and health. Because these are all things I love, creating content is truly so much fun and I feel like I’ve found my calling. My goal is to serve my readers by making their life easier through sharing the latest tips and trends for fashion and home, party planning and entertaining ideas, the latest and greatest easy recipes, tips for traveling with family, and all while sharing in the joy and chaos of motherhood.  I LOVE connecting with my readers from all different walks of life, and I love sharing my experience to help support others who are on a similar journey.

Fun Facts:

I was an International Debate Champion in College, and my husband says he can never win an argument.

I used to loathe cooking and thought of it as a chore, however, I now LOVE cooking for my family, and I am slightly obsessed with food photography.

My beloved late grandmother, Peggy Caudle Vining, was the Arkansas Poet Laureate and I learned an appreciation for writing and my love for the arts from her.

I initially went to college with a Piano Performance Scholarship, and I’m excited to teach my kids how to play and encourage an appreciation for music.

Amazingly Simple Book Wall Tutorial | Shea Fogerty

by Shea Fogerty

Thanks in part to my inheritance of Rachel (you can read all about that fantastic secretary full of antique books here) and picking up every great vintage book I can find from estate sales and shopping trip I made, I have quite the collection of beautiful old vintage books.  Some of which included some old-fashioned song hymnals that I thought would add the perfect touch above a piano.  During one of those shopping adventures, I had also collected two dirty shutters in need of rescuing.  They have been living in my garage, planning to use them one day in our bedroom.  But  I thought this would be a great focal point with the sheet music, although anything large like a sign would work.  I gathered up any book I was willing to rip a few pages out of or add some nail holes into and headed to the wall with shutters in hand to start my project.

Get The Most Out of Your Beach Vacation During a Tropical Storm | Julie Kohl

by Julie Kohl

You’ve waited and planned all year. Your bags are packed and you are about to head out for a week on the beach when you catch the weather report. A tropical storm is headed right for the beach. Don’t worry! All is not lost and I’m going to help you get the most out of your beach vacation during a tropical storm or hurricane.

We have spent at least a week on the beach every year for over ten years in a row. Eight of those years were at Panama City Beach which has come to feel like our home away from home. Over the course of those years, we have experienced our fair share of tropical storms.

A tropical storm, and especially a hurricane, can seem like a “death sentence” for a beach vacation. True, you may not get seven days of sand and sun but there is a pretty good chance it won’t be all rain clouds either.  And, if you have ever come home from a beach vacation feeling like you needed a vacation to recover from your vacation you just might benefit from the slower pace caused by a tropical storm.

Does an SSL Certificate Keep My Site Safe From Hackers? | Ricci Ellis

by Ricci Ellis of Ricci Alexis

I recently had a discussion with a fellow blogger about SSL certificates because my site got hacked last week and she thought having the certificate would cover you against attacks. Well, guess what friends, it won’t and I’m here today to tell you why, things you can do to prevent attacks and what, exactly, your SSL certificate does for you/your website.

First things first, what in the world is an SSL Certificate?? Most people didn’t actually know anything about SSL certificates or had even heard of them until last fall when Google announced that they were going to start flagging sites that didn’t have them and marking them as “unsafe”. You can physically see when a site is marked unsafe because the little green lock shown in the photo of a browser below will be red and/or not locked. The website’s address will also be HTTPS and not just HTTP.

Breast Feeding Tips and Advice | Jennifer Maune

by Jennifer Maune of The Maune Legacy

Nursing my five babies has been one of my greatest joys. It has not been the easiest journey, so in honor of World Breastfeeding Week, I’m sharing some breastfeeding tips and advice and a little bit about my experience in spending nearly five years, out of the last seven, nursing my babies. Before becoming a mother, like many women, I was quick to assume and quick to judge. Nothing like motherhood to help me realize that A. the world doesn’t revolve around me, B. it’s best to assume that we’re all just doing the best we can, and C. the world could use a little more grace. So I had seen mothers nursing in public and thought they should be nursing in private, and my young friends and I would discuss this matter with great authority. Goodness, we had a whole lot to learn!! But sadly, it took nursing my fourth baby, to finally be completely comfortable nursing (even while covered) in public. Breastfeeding is such an act of nature. God designed a woman’s body to nourish a baby, and the power of breast milk is truly miraculous! As women, we can all work together to normalize breastfeeding and be supportive and non-judgmental regarding whether or not we could or couldn’t nurse, or how, when or where to feed our baby.

Modern Moms – Keeping it Simple | Pat Downs

by Pat Downs of Sweet Yellow Cornbread

Most of today’s moms are raising their children much different than I raised mine.  When I was a young mother starting out, there was no home internet, no cell phones, no Netflix and landlines were still a very basic necessity.   WOW, I have just aged myself.

With Social Media on the rage, mother’s have the ability to connect with one another via Facebook Groups, Pinterest Groups, Twitter, Instagram and the list goes on and on.  The kids are being able to use our I-phones better than we do.  Recipe sharing is via Social Media in lieu of the old fashion rolodex cards passed down from generations.  I am so glad to see that some of today’s moms still like the ole’ fashion recipe exchanges, public libraries, going out for ice-cream socials and doing arts and crafts with their kids.

Pat is featuring some of her favorite Modern Moms. Check out the first in her series here: READ MORE…

How to Get Pieces You Love from Stichfix | Brittney Lee

by Brittney Lee

So I just got my 13th box from Stitchfix.  In case you’ve been living under a rock or avoiding the Internet, Stitchfix is a service where you fill out a style profile and they send you a box of clothes to try.  You keep what you want and send the rest back, only paying for what you keep. It’s fun and convenient. It’s great for anyone who either doesn’t want to go shopping or who wants to find fun new pieces.  I’ve enjoyed my boxes- but they’ve sort of been hit or miss for me.  I usually only like and keep 1-3 items from a box of 5.

However, this most recent box, they nailed it.  Well, almost.  There’s a rogue romper thrown in there.  It’s cute, but my thighs didn’t love it. Since I am finally getting pieces I love, I wanted to share some tips for getting the things you love in your box. I’ve recently done these three tips, and I feel like the folks at Stitchfix are finally getting what I want.

You Can’t Afford Not to Eat | Melissa Beck

“You can’t afford not to eat organic.” I heard someone say this at a recent gathering of farmers, most of whom call themselves “organic” if not actually “certified organic” and it took me aback. Of course, since I was a guest at the event I just sat there with my blank-face, I call it my “chopping broccoli face” and wondered how on earth we got to this point where alternative producers are denigrating “commercial producers”. What are we doing tearing our industry apart from the inside, when there are plenty of people on the outside of food production willing to do it for us?

Consumers deserve choices. There is room for both organic and traditional agriculture. Unfortunately, there has been hostility and negativity between the two sectors of Agriculture. Consumers desire the truth, and they deserve a wholesome food supply without rhetoric.
