A few months ago I was taking out all of the clothes that my daughter had outgrown out of her drawers. And placing them in a bag to give away to Goodwill. When I noticed that she had about three pairs of jeans that were too short in length, but still fit perfectly in the waist. I thought that it would probably be very easy to turn these too short jeans into some DIY cut-off shorts. I thought I could probably go to the craft store and buy some cute iron-on applique patches to jazz them up a bit. After, all this would be a great way to save money since I would be buying three less pairs of shorts for this spring/summer.
I’m so glad that I thought about this because the first pair that I made turned out really cute. Plus, these DIY cut-off shorts were super easy to make since they require no sewing.

As an avid crafter, I always have extra ribbon and lace hanging around the craft room; leftovers from previous projects that I don’t quite know what to do with. The DIY Ribbon Flag is a great holiday project to use up those scraps of ribbon and lace. This easy craft can be completed in just a day and doesn’t really need any fancy equipment. I used my sewing machine for some parts of the sewing but it could have easily been stitched by hand. Throw in some coordinating blue ribbons to add a pop of color amongst the red and white stripes or go traditional and use a variety of red and white ribbons and lace only. I’ve been wanting a peplum top for a few years now, but I never found that I liked that was in my budget. I’m kind of really cheap when it comes to buying clothes. I really don’t like spending more than $10 for a shirt (and I hate buying low-quality clothing). So I shop end of season sales where everything is really cheap. And for that reason, I have not come across a really cheap peplum top. 🙂
So I was really excited to try sewing Simplicity 1425 because now I could just make myself an affordable peplum top. I got the pattern on sale for $.99 when Hobby Lobby had Simplicity patterns on sale. Then I found some cute geometric blue & green stretch cotton fabric on clearance at Jo-Ann. And I was ready to sew my own peplum shirt.
