What I Learned at #Megaphone18

by Keisha McKinney

This past weekend I attended one of my favorite things I get to do all year – Megaphone Summit 2018 (#Megaphone18). Maybe it’s because so many of my favorite people all in one room. Maybe its because it’s in one of my favorite places in the whole U.S. of A (Fayetteville, AR). Maybe its because it brings my annual kick in the pants. Maybe because the value vs. the things I bring home just makes so much sense. I could keep going. But, my heart is full, my mind was rolling on the way home, my anxiety level kicked in on Sunday afternoon with all the things I felt like I needed to catch up on, and the notes in my journal pad were super, super full.

As I come off this incredible weekend that really did so much for my heart and hustle, I thought I’d share with you 2 lists – what I learned and what I’ve got to do. READ MORE…

Yellow Punch Recipe – Pineapple Lemonade | Brittney Lee

As a Southern woman, I love three things: a good party, a good party theme and party punch.  I think every party should at least have a color theme, and most are more fun with some themed decorations and other touches. I threw a bumblebee baby shower for a friend and, naturally, we needed a yellow punch. There’s always lemonade, but I wanted something different.  I’m sort of known for my punch in my party circle, so I needed something special. This pineapple lemonade is tart and tangy and sweet and perfect. And to be honest, it would be great as a cocktail with some light rum added.

The Afternoon Checklist – A Homeschool (and After School) Life Hack

by Lauren Scott

Do your kids have a favorite activity they default to in their free time? Do you wish they would spend at least some of their time on other enriching activities? Music practice? Other games or toys? Homework? Playing outside?

Do you also want to teach your children to be a bit more self-directed? And maybe give yourself some space to tackle a project with minimal (or at least less than constant) interruptions?

As an INTJ homeschool mom who highly values focused work time, I sure do.

Maybe you can relate to what I used to face everyday afternoon (just replace “Legos” with your child’s current obsession):

“Mama, can we play with Legos?”

So I created an Afternoon Checklist for each of my boys. I thought through the daily responsibilities I wanted them to fulfill and put those at the top. These must all be completed. READ MORE…

Great Gender Reveal Playlist | Brittney Lee

Music is one of my passions. I have been singing and dancing my whole life. Because of this, every special life event has to have its own special playlist. My husband and I spent days picking out the perfect music for our wedding ceremony and reception, so naturally, we wanted a special playlist for our gender reveal party. After spending HOURS pouring over music, I decided to share the playlist, and it’s become one of my most popular blog posts.

Even if you aren’t planning a gender reveal, it’s a great mix of fun music about boys, girls and babies. Read more to see the full list! And check out our gender reveal if you want to see how the party turned out.

Give Me All The Stripes | Amy Gramlich

by Amy Gramlich

Today I’m sharing a handful of outfits which reveal my fondness for styling stripes. But first, here’s a little Amy secret that will probably surprise you. I used to hate stripes.

And…I used to hate all things black-and-white.

But don’t kick me to the curb just yet! I’ve changed.

Promise!

Isn’t it funny how our tastes evolve around the trends around us? It’s almost scary when you really think about it!

Being 5 foot tall, I’m not saying horizontal stripes are the best ever decision for my closet. But, I just can’t turn away. The more stripes I see, the more I buy.

The ease of putting together a polished outfit is almost laughable when it comes to stripes. Just check out some of these outfits below. Surely, you can put some together quite easily with items from your own closet.

Miss August 2018 | Brittney Lee

I remember in high school trying really hard to fit in, feigning interest in Call of Duty to hang with boys who liked it. Being into music I didn’t love because it was cool. Don’t we all struggle with trying to fit in?  Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s way more important to follow your passions and your interests, and then find your tribe around those things. And that’s what blogging has been for me.

I’m Brittney, and I blog over at Razorback Britt. I am married to Tyler, a police officer, and we have one daughter, Remington. We also have two rambunctious pups and a pond full of catfish. I work full-time doing digital marketing, and spend my free time with friends, at church, at concerts, shopping, cooking and dancing around my house. Three of my favorite things are queso (and chips), Hanson (yes, MMMBop Hanson), and group texting (with GIFs). Enough about me.  How did I get here?

I started blogging back in 2009. I was in graduate school studying digital communication, and decided I should jump into the medium I was studying.  I loved reading blogs, and wanted to join the fun. I was planning a wedding, living on my own for the first time, and chugging away as a full time graduate student. That’s what my content was about, and that’s the community I found.

Over the years, I’ve documented building our home, navigating life and work, and growing our family. I’ve always connected with people in similar life situations, or people with similar interests. Nowadays, my blog is mostly about my sweet (almost) 2-year-old daughter, our family adventures, and my hobbies of fitness, Broadway musicals and cooking. Every step of the way, the Arkansas Women Bloggers have been there to support, encourage and help me find my voice.

I’m honored to serve as the Arkansas Women Blogger of the Month for August. This month, I’m excited to share a little more about my passions and my interests with you. Maybe you’ll learn something new or find a common interest with me.

I love online communities. They may not be in-person, but they are real. I find real support, real connections, and real friendships through this keyboard.  I hope people get to know me through my blog, and I look forward to getting to know new friends as well.

Fun Facts:

I originally wanted to study music education and own a music studio. But I learned that there would be a TON of learning about instruments, and I was easily frustrated learning piano and guitar, and decided that wasn’t for me.

I was Arkansas Baby Miss America in 1988. My family went to California for the Baby Miss America pageant.  I didn’t place, but we had a fun trip.

I’m obsessed with Broadway musicals. I have seen more than 100 professional shows, either on Broadway or touring companies.

I listen to podcasts. A lot. I listen while I drive (60 minutes round trip each day), while I get ready and while I clean. I subscribe to more than 30 podcasts at any point in time.

9 Blog Things To Do When You Don’t Want To Write

by Keisha McKinney

I’m having one of those days where I just don’t want to write the post. Well, at least not the post that I’ve been paid to write and should be working on. But, Little Man is asleep and I have the short window to be productive so my mind is rolling through – what are some blog things I could be doing even when I don’t want to write? READ MORE…

My Friend

by Katharine Trauger, Miss July 2018

Once, so long ago—it almost seems a dream—I did what we dream of, and seldom do: I traveled to meet a virtual friend. Such an enchanting drive across this fair land into a world with different flora! Such an alluring visit as we finally met, shared gifts, and enjoyed her amazing teen offspring! Spending the night, encountering new books I could not wait to own and read, sampling of her very best cooking, and absorbing such a welcome, I marveled at the joy and peace and love that could thrive inside the very, very simplest of worlds . . .READ MORE
